When I meet and interview a potential new business partner, I often hear the same excuses on why someone won’t be successful in business. With a little Life Coaching you can get past these “reasons”

To new Entrepreneurs, this can sometimes get frustrating. I used to be one of those frustrated Entrepreneurs. Fifteen years later, I’ve been around for awhile and worked on myself, big time! I’ve had some Life Coaching from mentors and personal development programs. Now, I see these excuses as self limiting belief, that only exist in someone else’s world. The first step is to identify the self limiting belief. The top 5 I hear are:

  1. I’m not a salesperson. I love this one. Especially when, you don’t need to be a salesperson. But, unfortunately, some people have that mental block and can’t get past it. First off, sales is about relationships. All you need to do is build and grow the relationships. If you focus on that, you will be fine. Provide value and the marketplace will work with you. In my business opportunity, the only sale, is selling the appointment. After you have made the appointment, the tools and your sponsor(up line), do the rest of the work. It really is as simple as that.
  2. I can’t change who I am. As Jim Rohn saysIf you don’t like how things are, change it! You’re not a tree.” This means, you CAN change. You just need to want to change. Another saying is “There is no can or can’t, only will or won’t.” People need to wipe the word “can’t” from their vocabulary. Instead use the word “won’t”. My wife often says “I can’t wake up early” Wrong, you can, you just choose not to.(I’m not afraid to put this in my blog, because my wife won’t read this anyways, but that’s for another post on) If you want change, you just need to change your habits. It really is that simple. IF you want to learn a new trade or get in shape, but are having a difficult time, finding the time, get up earlier! Create that habit. Or block off a certain hour in your calendar and set a reminder in your phone, for every day at that time to study or workout, or whatever it is, that you WANT to do. As my parent’s always told me growing up “You can do anything you want to do” Unfortunately, I had a difficult time being an NFL Linebacker at 5’6″ running a 5.0 40 yard dash. So I’m hear speaking to you instead. If you’re looking to create some positive habits and don’t know where to start, some Life Coaching is a good place to start. Seek out a mentor to help with that.
  3. “I don’t know anybody” Simple solution for this self-limiting belief also. Meet people! Talk to people! Join a business networking group. Speak to your neighbors, your server, your barber, the person sitting next to you at Starbucks. Go to “meetup.com” Find a group that fits. There are thousands! Also, there’s the internet. On Facebook there are groups for anything you can think of. And many of them! You just need to break out of your comfort zone.
  4. I don’t have enough time. We all only have 24 hours in a day. And we are ALL using all 24 hours. None of us have “spare” time. We all use our time based on our priorities. Some of us feel we need 4 hours of TV or more, some feel 2 hours, some feel 1 hour, some of us don’t watch tv at all! (Maybe a Bears game here or there…) I promise, if you believe you don’t have enough time to take on a new opportunity, let me spend some time with you. I will help you find some time. We all have areas of our life that we could be more efficient at. Everybody has the same amount of time in the day. If you’re someone who wishes you had more time (like 99 percent of the world), what you’re really asking for is a better way to manage your priorities so you can optimize the time you already have. If you’d like help, email me and I will help! I’ve added Life Coaching to my list of things that I’m willing to help with.
  5. My family or job needs me. IF this is true, you need to improve your leadership ability. As Lau Tzu, the ancient philosopher once said, “A leader is best when people barely know he exists. Of a good leader, who talks little, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say, ‘we did this ourselves.’” Once again, with a little Life Coaching, you can learn to be a more effective leader.

If you’ve attempted these things and you’re still struggling, I recommend Landmark. Landmark can help you eliminate ALL self-limiting beliefs. Landmark will allow you to do some Life Coaching for yourself! It has worked for me.

Ever wonder what it takes to have a break out year? To take life to another level? Thanks to the continuing mentorship from many mentors of mine, I have a clear path to this.

I recently listened to a morning wake up call and had the privilege of listening to Justice Eagan. He shared his 7 steps with me to have a break out year in 2016

  1. 1st step to all change. Take responsibility for your life. The Compound effect by Darren hardy. Your life is a product of your choices. Own this. You must own this to create change. Take control of your life. Don’t live in the past. Let go of the past. Live into your vision of the future. Make this your present. This is changing your paradigm
  2. You must change your core beliefs. Believe you can do it. You are capable of it. You deserve it. We are all capable of more than we give ourselves credit for. You must take back and own your power. Set up morning and evening positive affirmations. Speak positive things and positive expectations into your life.
  3. Monitor your associations. Don’t let negative people spend their time with you. Own the energy in your world. Spend time with Doers, Achievers, Dreamers. People with integrity. People that support you.  You can’t afford to spend time with anyone else
  4. Reverse engineer Your goals. It’s wild. Those that have what others want, will tell others how to get it or make it happen, and they don’t listen. Must write goals down. Must break them down to manageable chunks. Annual, monthly,  weekly, daily. If only annual, procrastination sets in easily
  5. Create new patterns in your life. Celebrate the step to your growth.  You must have that to create new habits. This is a life change!!! not a new years resolution. You’re creating a new habit of continuous learning.  This led to many new habits. Must have a core desire to improve. Too many people look for max results with minimum change
  6. Invest in yourself constantly.  You will get the best return investing in yourself. Increase your value.
  7. Do what you already know to do!! Serve the marketplace. Uncover, agitate and offer solutions for the marketplace. Out serve your peers. Like Eric and RayAnybody and everybody can do it, if they want to do it.

Without great mentorship directly from wonderful people like Bob Quintana, Bob Florentine, Jason Wolkow, Lexa Leifer, Ray Hidon, and many of the others I’ve never “met” but I know from the audio cds, podcasts or conference calls I’ve listened to MANY times.

Have you ever had the chance to speak to someone you admire or want to work with and you had a chance to speak up, but you froze? Or how about, living your life to a lower standard and knowing what you need to do, but not doing it..being stuck in a rut that you can’t get out of.

Many of us have been in a situation like this. Be it, a top business prospect, a potential customer, or a person you’re attracted to and you’d like to ask them on a date. All of us have been there. Most of us have frozen and not been able to speak what you want to speak, if you even speak at all.

If you’re an entrepreneur, these prospects go on your “Chicken Shit list” Attack this list if you’re looking for a positive change in your life.

Or maybe you’re in a dead end relationship or job, maybe a loved one is an addict or alcoholic. Many of us are afraid to speak up or do anything about what’s bothering us.

Does any of this apply to you? Do you have a chicken shit list? Want to know the key to getting rid of this list or JOB? Or the key to making positive change in your life? Simple one word answer, Courage.  Courage is taking action in the face of fear. Pretty profound, right? Yes, so simple, it makes you almost feel stupid when you think of it.

Courage is the key to unlocking you’re freedom. Courage to let the past go. Courage to tackle new opportunity. Courage to speak up at work. Courage to speak up to a friend or loved one. Courage to take ACTION.

Want to know the key to courage? ACTION. Yes, once again, action is the key! By taking action, you start the ball rolling, creating some momentum, which leads to more action, which leads to more action, and so on… When you take action, you also feel better and you will now feel like taking the actions you need to take. (Even though, you should not live according to how you feel) So if you’re looking for a positive change in your life, courage is the key to taking action.

In Landmark, the forum leader used a tennis analogy. Imagine watching a tennis match. The ball goes back and forth, over and over. You watch this, but can not affect what is going on. Now, jump in the game. Take action, participate in the game, even get to the point where you dictate the game. This is life. Life happens for you, not to you(Thanks for sharing Brian Fanale!). Life is your tennis court. It’s up to you to create the action, so you quit looking for a positive change in your life and start BEING positive change in your life!

I recently met with the a business mentor of mine. He’s the president of  a large company. (200+million in annual revenue, maybe more?).

We have an annual meeting to catch up with each other. I’ve known my friend, Gary, for 20 years. He’s always been someone that I could share ideas with and talk business with. He’s one of the most successful people I know. So I was excited to meet with him and I planned on showing him my green energy business presentation. We spent most of our time catching up and sharing stories, till we were almost done, I almost blew it! But, I did not, even though I was not sure what he’d think. I knew I had something good to share with him. I had courage and asked if I could share it with him. He said “Yes, of course”. And he liked it! I’m sure many additional opportunities will arise out of me taking action in the moment. As I’ve stated before and I took this from Landmark, I am the possibility of Freedom, I am the possibility of Courage, and I am the possibility of Compassion.

I often used to wonder, “What does it take to build a successful network marketing business?” Thanks to Bob Quintana for sharing his 4 Pillars to being a Successful Entrepreneur with me

Many people have different thoughts on what it takes to be a successful Entrepreneur.  I used to think, all I needed was positive energy and drive. Napoleon Hill points out his reasons for failure, along with many things needed for success.

One winter day in 2013, I had the pleasure to have an introduction to a new business mentor. Entrepreneur, Bob Quintana.

It was on this call that Bob shared his 4 Pillars to being a successful Entrepreneur with me. These pillars of success are;

  1. Duplication- We must have a business and a system that we are able to duplicate. Ever hear of McDonald’s, Starbuck’s, or Subway? All of these businesses are very successful but also have a model that they are able to duplicate, over and over and over. If you’re doing something in your business, that you can’t teach others to duplicate, you’re doing it wrong!
  2. Fast Start Training- We must be able to get new employees, associates or affiliates, started quickly. There should be a training model and system to get new people up and running FAST. When people are engaged and making $, they are likely to stick with a job or new business, longer
  3. Promotion- Promotion is a HUGE part of network marketing, especially, but also in business. If you don’t promote your business or event, nobody will know about it. When it comes to promoting events, knowing how to properly promote, is the most important thing about events.
  4. Taprooting- This is finding the newest person in your organization, that has potential to be a “player” and spending time mentoring this individual. This is important in traditional business as well as network marketing, if you want your business to grow and Duplicate!

Are you always quick to chalk it up as “bad luck” But what are you doing to create “good luck”? “Think and Grow Rich” has what you need!

www.coopsgreenteam.com

The book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill is the success Bible! This is the place to start when searching for success. In this book Napoleon Hill details 30 Major Causes of Failure… Here we go.

30 Major Causes of Failure. These are factors that will cause us to fail, IF WE DO NOT REDIRECT our course or path.
By Napoleon Hill
1. Unfavorable hereditary background-deficiency in brain-power
2. Lack of a well-defined purpose in life- no central purpose or definite goal
3. Lack of ambition to aim above mediocrity-not willing to pay the price
4. Insufficient education-can be overcome with relative ease
5. Lack of self-discipline-comes through self-control. Self-mastery is the hardest job you
will ever tackle. This is why you NEED Think and Grow Rich
6. Ill health. overeating, wrong habits of thought, or negative thinking. wrong use of sex,
lack of proper physical exercise, improper breathing.
7. Unfavorable environmental influences during childhood-”As the twig is bent, so
shall the tree grow”
8. Procrastination-Procrastination is one of the most common causes of failure.
Procrastination stands within the shadow of every human being, waiting its opportunity to spoil
your chances of success. Most of us go through life as failures because we are waiting for “the
time to be right” to start doing something worthwile. DO NOT WAIT. This time will never be “just
right”. Start where you stand, work with whatever tools you have at your command, and you will
acquire better tools as you go along.
9. Lack of persistence-People are prone to give up at first sign of defeat. Failure cannot
cope with persistence
10.. Negative personality- Success comes through the application of power, and power is
attained through cooperative efforts of other people. A negative personality will not induce
cooperation
11. Lack of control of sexual urges.
12. Uncontrolled desire for “something for nothing”- gambling instinct
13. Lack of a well-defined power of decision-Those who succeed reach decisions
promptly and change them very slowly. Those who fail reach decisions slowly and change them
frequently, and quickly.
14. One or more of the basic six fears-fear of poverty, criticism, ill health, loss of love, old
age, and death.
15. Wrong selection of a mate in marriage-Most common cause of failure. Unless this
relationship is harmonious, failure is likely to follow.
16. Overcaution- Undercaution is just as bad. Both extremes are to be guarded against
17. Wrong selection of associates in business- We emulate those with whom we
associate most closely. Pick an employer who is worth emulating
18. Superstition and Prejudice- Successful people keep open minds and are afraid of
nothing. They THINK & GROW RICH
19. Wrong selection of a vocation- You cannot have outstanding success in work you do
not like.
20. Lack of concentration of effort- The jack-of-all-trades seldom is good at any.
21. The habit of indiscriminate spending- speaks for itself
22. Lack of enthusiasm- Enthusiasm is contagious and the person who has it(under
control) is generally welcome in any group of people
23. Intolerance- The person with a closed mind on any subject seldom gets ahead.
24. Intemperance- Most damaging are overeating, alcohol, drugs, and sexual activities.
Overindulgence in any of these activities can be fatal to success.
25. Inability to cooperate with others- This is a fault that no well-informed
business-person or leader will tolerate
26. Possession of power that was not acquired through self-effort-
27. Intentional dishonesty- Sooner or later your deeds will catch up with you, and you will
pay by loss of reputation and perhaps loss of liberty.
28. Egotism and vanity- These qualities serve as red lights that warn others to keep away
29. Guessing instead of thinking – Most people are too indifferent or lazy to acquire facts
with which to think accurately.
30. Lack of capital – You must have a sufficient reserve of capital to absorb the shock of
your mistakes and to carry you over until you have established a reputation,
It will be helpful if you get someone who know you well to go over this list with you and help to
analyze yourself by each of these causes of failure. Most people cannot see themselves as
others see them. You may be one who cannot. All of these “reasons” can be overcome by

YOU TAKING ACTION.

If you allow burnout and stress to run its course, it will leave you like the pictured car.

A shell of a person. Just a body walking through life trying to survive. This is NO WAY TO LIVE!!! Life does not need to be like that! Burnout leads to lack of creativity, poor performance and disengagement. Burnout and stress also affect you physically and can cause the following symptoms; fatigue, lack of sleep, sickness, depression, anxiety, and other physical ailments. Burnout has ruined many careers. Stress has even more negative side effects wreaks havoc on your health.

You can manage and control stress!

You must remember, stress is FAKE! 100% made up from the voices in your head. Telling you stories about what may or may not happen. Throw the voices in a closet and slam the door! Yes! It really is that simple(with proper training)

How do I manage this?

It’s important to regenerate your energy. Without this, you are likely going to flame out. There are 3 steps to regeneration. These are

  1. Exercising some mind control. Think of blissful things. Or think of a time when you were fulfilled
  2. Remember… Your J.O.B does NOT define you! You are MUCH more than your job. You MUST live a balanced life with the following elements.
    1. Career
    2. Family
    3. Financial
    4. Physical health
    5. Learning and personal development
    6. Recreation
    7. Social
    8. Spiritual

If you’re missing something from that list, you’re doing it WRONG. Add that list to your agenda and make some time in your calendar to live a balanced life.

3. Become accountable for your own life!! When I was running my asphalt paving company. I allowed stress to eat me alive. I worried about employees, the economy, unions, etc… All things I can’t control. I took back control of my life by selling my problems to someone else 😉

I am personally accountable for my own life and everything that happens in it. This has helped eliminate the stress from my life.

There area a few other things I have done to eliminate stress and burn out from my life that I recommend for EVERYONE!

  1. Grow!! Always be learning. Read. Take courses. When you are growing, you are focused on the new stuff and not on the stress
  2. Meditation. Meditate at least 10 minutes every day. This is mind control. The ultimate level of personal development and taking control of yourself and your life,  is controlling your own mind. Set a timer for 10 minutes and close your eyes. Focus on your breathing. Every time you have a though, pluck the though from your mind like its a weed. It’s VERY tough to do this for 10 minutes. But your brain needs this! You must rest your brain and clear your mind, so new thoughts and Ideas can have room to grow
  3. Take a personal development course. I recommend Landmark. You can check out a short 10 minute video Here. Landmark was LIFE CHANGING for me and other’s I’ve shared Landmark with. There are MANY  ways this program helped me and enhanced my life. Landmark is for everyone, no matter where in your life or career you are at.
  4. I subscribe to and recommend, a 4 day weekend every 8 weeks. You need to recharge your batteries and remind yourself why you work hard. I’ve had many arguments with my dad on this, but for me, this step is 100% necessary, to avoid burn out
  5. Daily physical activity. Even if its only 15 minutes of sit ups, push ups and treadmill. This is VERY important. You only get 1 body and if you don’t maintain it, you will wear it out. Then you are out of business!

“I’m Trying, but the results just aren’t there. What am I doing wrong?”

That’s a question I often hear. It’s often an easy one, but not a simple one. Many of our “projects” don’t take off for a variety of reasons. On a conference call today, Aron Parker covered this topic. This info is applicable to ALL businesses, relationships, projects, ETC….They ALL need results

Good Intentions is the FIRST Step, but not the ONLY step

Many of us think, because we mean well, that should be “Good Enough”. Well, I hate to break it to you, this isn’t “Good Enough”. Your business is not a lottery that you throw your $ in and wait and hope you are the winner! The guts of the call were the following

  • You MUST make a shift to take DAILY SPECIFIC ACTIONS. Otherwise, YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT!
    • NOT INTENTIONS, BUT ACTIONS!
    • I recommend planning these actions the day before
  • Consistency. You must take massive daily action, every day!
  • Language is important. Substitute the terms “Some Day, hopefully, etc..” with “Action, purpose, now, discipline, habits”
  • You must move from Good Intentions to Good Actions

Intention + Action= Results!!

“Until the pain of remaining the same outweighs the pain of change, nothing will change” We can use Personal Development along with taking action to make that change!

Just heard Marty Hale repeat that statement on our company, weekly power call. How true it is. Take action! Actions lead to results. New actions lead to new results. Personal development will help you get new results

Many people live according to how they “feel”. I think this is a new phenomena in our culture. Back in hunting and gathering times, I’m sure often, the hunters or gatherers didn’t “feel” like hunting. But they had to. They didn’t choose to take a nap or play a video game, instead of hunting!

personal development

If you live your life according to how you feel, it is a sure way to avoid success, in anything.

Successful people just don’t live their lives according to how they feel. They don’t usually feel like studying personal development, but they do it!  I don’t feel like sitting here right now, typing this blog. I sure as hell didn’t feel like leaving my comfort zone to record this video that I shared with thousands of people. I’m putting myself out there to be judged and criticized. But, I took action anyways, because I knew, that to take my business to the ultimate level, I needed to continue to take the actions that the rockstars(Mark JRay Higdon, Eric Worre, Matt Morris, Bob Quintana, Joe Ochiogrosso) of the business take. I am leaving no stones uturned in my search for success at the highest levels. This is why I study the successful people. That’s why I have reached out to and met Ray Higdon and Joe Ochiogrosso(I’m on his team). I get the pleasure to work with Bob Quintana!(how many people do you KNOW that make 6 digits a MONTH) And I will one day get to know Mark, Eric and Matt also. All of these people take action according to what they know they SHOULD do.(according to their principles and their plan)

This morning I listened to one recorded conference call and 1 live call. On my live call(through my MLSP group) the topic happened to be taking action.

Some interesting info. What are the questions that stop people from taking action? What is going through their heads?

  • How do I?
  • What if?
  • If I ___ will I be able to ___?
  • How long will ___take?

Those are the thoughts that freeze people from taking that initial step.  Solution.. FIGURE IT OUT

Take action and get the answer. Replace expectations with appreciation(of what you’re doing, what you’re learning, what you’re apart of!)

There’s also a simple 3 step action formula you can follow.

  1. Action leads to results
  2. Results give us answers
  3. Answers direct us to the next action

IF you don’t get the result you desire, CHANGE THE ACTION

SIMPLE!!!

I am Phil Cooper,Father & Husband, entrepreneur and adventure seeker. I’m on a mission to bring freedom to those in search of it. I’m sharing my journey with you on my road of Personal Development.

Today my blog will have a theme of personal accountability. This is a blog that will touch on
  • Personal Development
  • Leadership
  • Business and team building
  • Network marketing skills
My father started an asphalt paving company slightly before I was born, in 1974. I was always around the business and working from a young age. My father and mother both taught me much about integrity, work ethic and accountability. He was also, unconsciously teaching me entrepreneurship. As a family, we always discussed business ideas and what was possible! From a young age, my parents taught me Personal Development. I was taught I could do anything I wanted!
I attended Northern Illinois University and received a degree in Business Management, with an emphasis on Entrepreneurship and small business administration. While in college I continued to operate my DJ business that I had started in High School. I worked for fraternities, and for a couple of bars.  I graduated in 1999. My first summer out of college, my father had a massive heart attack. My parents strongly encouraged me to leave the industry. Due to the business and market changing on us, they wanted to sell the company and have me find employment elsewhere. But, I’m stubborn and I thought people would look at me as a quitter. So I took over day to day operations.  I went from being in my 1st year of working full time, to running a multi-million dollar asphalt paving company in the middle of being extorted by local construction unions. I worked as hard on myself through personal development as I did on my business.
I signed up with the local unions and I declared I’d be the industry leader in commercial asphalt paving. The company grew from 2 million to 7 million with me at the helm. I was making great money for my age, but I wasn’t happy. Then 2008 hit us. We were devastated by the recession. We lost close to 2 million dollars. We had to auction off most of our equipment and downsize, quickly! I lost every dollar I had to my name. I was depressed and I even temporarily abandoned personal development. This led me to looking for something else, something recession proof. My good friend and super entrepreneur, Mark Bezik shared with me a green energy company. I was in love with MLM and energy!
After 2 years, I had proven to myself that I could work this brand new industry, network marketing, and do this part time! I also had the belief in my MLM company, so I decided to burn my bridge and sell my asphalt company, after attending the Landmark Forum(more to come on that in later blogs). There was no going back now. I was taking back control of my life! I was back to working on Personal Development, and with mentor’s like Bob Quintana, Bob Florentine and Jason Wolkow, I knew the only thing stopping me was myself!
The theme of today’s blog is personal accountability and personal development.
You may have others that are holding you back(at least in your mind) from growing your home based business,  holding you back from freedom, from enjoyment. This may be spouses, bosses, friends, family, children, etc. They aren’t holding you back. You are holding yourself back with self limiting beliefs, taught to you from the voices in your head. Don’t allow this. Take personal responsibility. Take control of your life!
Today we are holding a kickoff call for my 90 day business blitz. I’ve allowed my MLM company growing pains, personal issues, and lack of time to be excuses for me. Today, they will no longer be excuses. It’s time to take back control of my life, I’m refusing to let others be excuses for me.
I am the possibility of freedom, courage and compassion. I love my life and I live it powerfully.
Everyone has the ability to create the life they want and live it powerfully. You just need to shift your paradigm.
Starting now, I’m going to live my life like the rockstar that I know that I am.

To do this, I’m doing the following actions on a daily basis; reading 10 pages of a good book per day, reading 10 pages of a landmark based article or book per day, holding daily accountability calls for my team, meditate for at least 5 minutes, and repeat my affirmations in the morning and evening(at a minimum!) This will help me maximize Personal Development.

I will also be posting blog entries 3-5 times per week
The impact of this would seem stressful to many, considering I have a full time job and 3 young boys that I spend lots of time with and coach in sports. But stress is ” made up, based off of the fears of what may happen or not happen” coming from the voices in your head. Thanks to Landmark, I no longer have those voices. I no longer have any self limiting beliefs. I am taking full responsibility for the growth(or lack of growth) of my business.
