What is Integrity? I had wondered growing up.

I’ve since learned, without Integrity, you have nothing and nothing works. It may temporarily, but not for long.

My parents often talked to me about doing what was right and doing things in the proper manner. They didn’t refer to this as integrity, this was just “how things were”. I had never had to ask, What is Integrity?

You did things that were expected of you, whether it was conveyed or not. And you did things the right way. If I was on time, I was late. Be kind to everyone. Be thoughtful. You are a person of your word and this is how you will behave.  This was life. And they were awesome models. Many times later in life, it has shown up for me, in different situations. And I was able to be present to this and reflect back to what my parents taught me. About a year ago, I met with a long time family friend, Katie Hansen. (Check out her blog at http://clingtotherock.blogspot.com/,,, Incorrect address in the video) Katie has an amazing story, make sure you check her out. In preparation for our meeting, Katie painted a rock for me (It’s her thing). She thought of Integrity, when she thought of me. Wow!! This blew me away. I had tears in my eye. I had an “Aha” moment. Recently, I had graduated from the “Self Expression and Leadership Program” at Landmark. What is Integrity? Integrity is the baseline for everything in life and especially in Landmark. Katie reminded me of how grateful I was that my parents had taught me about Integrity.

What is Integrity  Very proud of my rock! It goes everywhere with me in my pocket

What is Integrity

What is Integrity? Integrity is;

  1.  Doing what you said you would do, and doing it on time.
  2. Doing what you know to do and doing it as it was meant to be done, and doing it on time.
  3. Doing what others expect you to do, even if you haven’t said that you would do it, and doing it on time.

Unless you live in a cave by yourself, you will fall out of integrity from time to time

What is Integrity
This guy was at the last Cub World series game!

If you fall out of integrity, it doesn’t make you a bad person. Just out of integrity, a temporary state of being. You can regain your integrity in the following manner; acknowledge you are out of integrity and acknowledge the impact that this has. Then you must put into place a plan to not fall out of integrity in the future. For example; You are late for work. You show up and acknowledge you are late.  You acknowledge the impact that this has on the others at work. Then you put into a framework to not let this happen again(” I will be 10 minutes early, every day, to make sure, that I’m on time”)

What is Integrity?

This is a deep subject related leadership. Without Integrity, Leadership is impossible.

Looking to Transform your life and have more Freedom?

I can help!

What does freedom mean to you? It can mean many different things to different people. For many years I thought freedom was being a small business owner. Hah! That’s a great story we business owner’s tell ourselves. Most small business owners are slaves to their companies. They work 80 hours a week so they can take home a 40 hour paycheck(IF LUCKY) and count on the big payday at the end….that rarely comes.

I always was drawn to freedom. I’ve always hated being told what to do(right mom and dad?) I’ve always loved the freedom motorcycles brought me. I had many years of watching my dad slave over his asphalt paving company, thinking he was free. I thought that was what I wanted also. Then I graduated and joined my father in business and I had the “freedom” I was searching for. Ulcers, employee problems, union problems, banking problems, problems, problems, problems. All I did was put out fires. I should have been a firefighter! After 15 years of this,My mentor, Bob Quintana, recommended a personal and professional development program called Landmark. In  Landmark I discovered what freedom meant to me and I’ve been able to transform my life.

  • financial freedom
  • Free from self limiting beliefs
  • Free from all past experiences
  • Free to live where I want
  • Free to work where I want.
  • Free from concern of what other’s may think or say
  • Freedom to spend time with my boys!!

Personal Development

Freedom means many different things to many different people at many different levels. When you are free from the past, you have a clearing in which you can create something new. Without being free from the past, you will always repeat the past. The past predicts your future. It takes a transformation to truly put this into play. I’m in search of the ultimate freedom. Freedom from the system. Freedom to choose 100% based on my principles and plan. Freedom to create new, every day.

Related to freedom is stress. I am a serious person and stress had always been a problem for me. In  Landmark I learned that stress comes from the voices in my head, based off the fears of what may or may not happen. I knew I had to make a career path change at some point, but the fear of selling the company and thinking others would think I was a quitter, prevented this from happening. Completely useless thinking! Learning this changed my life. Now, I’m completely stress free and loving life. I am the possibility of freedom.

“Until the pain of remaining the same outweighs the pain of change, nothing will change” We can use Personal Development along with taking action to make that change!

Just heard Marty Hale repeat that statement on our company, weekly power call. How true it is. Take action! Actions lead to results. New actions lead to new results. Personal development will help you get new results

Many people live according to how they “feel”. I think this is a new phenomena in our culture. Back in hunting and gathering times, I’m sure often, the hunters or gatherers didn’t “feel” like hunting. But they had to. They didn’t choose to take a nap or play a video game, instead of hunting!

personal development

If you live your life according to how you feel, it is a sure way to avoid success, in anything.

Successful people just don’t live their lives according to how they feel. They don’t usually feel like studying personal development, but they do it!  I don’t feel like sitting here right now, typing this blog. I sure as hell didn’t feel like leaving my comfort zone to record this video that I shared with thousands of people. I’m putting myself out there to be judged and criticized. But, I took action anyways, because I knew, that to take my business to the ultimate level, I needed to continue to take the actions that the rockstars(Mark JRay Higdon, Eric Worre, Matt Morris, Bob Quintana, Joe Ochiogrosso) of the business take. I am leaving no stones uturned in my search for success at the highest levels. This is why I study the successful people. That’s why I have reached out to and met Ray Higdon and Joe Ochiogrosso(I’m on his team). I get the pleasure to work with Bob Quintana!(how many people do you KNOW that make 6 digits a MONTH) And I will one day get to know Mark, Eric and Matt also. All of these people take action according to what they know they SHOULD do.(according to their principles and their plan)

This morning I listened to one recorded conference call and 1 live call. On my live call(through my MLSP group) the topic happened to be taking action.

Some interesting info. What are the questions that stop people from taking action? What is going through their heads?

  • How do I?
  • What if?
  • If I ___ will I be able to ___?
  • How long will ___take?

Those are the thoughts that freeze people from taking that initial step.  Solution.. FIGURE IT OUT

Take action and get the answer. Replace expectations with appreciation(of what you’re doing, what you’re learning, what you’re apart of!)

There’s also a simple 3 step action formula you can follow.

  1. Action leads to results
  2. Results give us answers
  3. Answers direct us to the next action

IF you don’t get the result you desire, CHANGE THE ACTION

I am Phil Cooper,Father & Husband, entrepreneur and adventure seeker. I’m on a mission to bring freedom to those in search of it. I’m sharing my journey with you on my road of Personal Development.

Today my blog will have a theme of personal accountability. This is a blog that will touch on
  • Personal Development
  • Leadership
  • Business and team building
  • Network marketing skills
My father started an asphalt paving company slightly before I was born, in 1974. I was always around the business and working from a young age. My father and mother both taught me much about integrity, work ethic and accountability. He was also, unconsciously teaching me entrepreneurship. As a family, we always discussed business ideas and what was possible! From a young age, my parents taught me Personal Development. I was taught I could do anything I wanted!
I attended Northern Illinois University and received a degree in Business Management, with an emphasis on Entrepreneurship and small business administration. While in college I continued to operate my DJ business that I had started in High School. I worked for fraternities, and for a couple of bars.  I graduated in 1999. My first summer out of college, my father had a massive heart attack. My parents strongly encouraged me to leave the industry. Due to the business and market changing on us, they wanted to sell the company and have me find employment elsewhere. But, I’m stubborn and I thought people would look at me as a quitter. So I took over day to day operations.  I went from being in my 1st year of working full time, to running a multi-million dollar asphalt paving company in the middle of being extorted by local construction unions. I worked as hard on myself through personal development as I did on my business.
I signed up with the local unions and I declared I’d be the industry leader in commercial asphalt paving. The company grew from 2 million to 7 million with me at the helm. I was making great money for my age, but I wasn’t happy. Then 2008 hit us. We were devastated by the recession. We lost close to 2 million dollars. We had to auction off most of our equipment and downsize, quickly! I lost every dollar I had to my name. I was depressed and I even temporarily abandoned personal development. This led me to looking for something else, something recession proof. My good friend and super entrepreneur, Mark Bezik shared with me a green energy company. I was in love with MLM and energy!
After 2 years, I had proven to myself that I could work this brand new industry, network marketing, and do this part time! I also had the belief in my MLM company, so I decided to burn my bridge and sell my asphalt company, after attending the Landmark Forum(more to come on that in later blogs). There was no going back now. I was taking back control of my life! I was back to working on Personal Development, and with mentor’s like Bob Quintana, Bob Florentine and Jason Wolkow, I knew the only thing stopping me was myself!
The theme of today’s blog is personal accountability and personal development.
You may have others that are holding you back(at least in your mind) from growing your home based business,  holding you back from freedom, from enjoyment. This may be spouses, bosses, friends, family, children, etc. They aren’t holding you back. You are holding yourself back with self limiting beliefs, taught to you from the voices in your head. Don’t allow this. Take personal responsibility. Take control of your life!
Today we are holding a kickoff call for my 90 day business blitz. I’ve allowed my MLM company growing pains, personal issues, and lack of time to be excuses for me. Today, they will no longer be excuses. It’s time to take back control of my life, I’m refusing to let others be excuses for me.
I am the possibility of freedom, courage and compassion. I love my life and I live it powerfully.
Everyone has the ability to create the life they want and live it powerfully. You just need to shift your paradigm.
Starting now, I’m going to live my life like the rockstar that I know that I am.

To do this, I’m doing the following actions on a daily basis; reading 10 pages of a good book per day, reading 10 pages of a landmark based article or book per day, holding daily accountability calls for my team, meditate for at least 5 minutes, and repeat my affirmations in the morning and evening(at a minimum!) This will help me maximize Personal Development.

I will also be posting blog entries 3-5 times per week
The impact of this would seem stressful to many, considering I have a full time job and 3 young boys that I spend lots of time with and coach in sports. But stress is ” made up, based off of the fears of what may happen or not happen” coming from the voices in your head. Thanks to Landmark, I no longer have those voices. I no longer have any self limiting beliefs. I am taking full responsibility for the growth(or lack of growth) of my business.
